  • 37: Meet Gill & Denise: Celebrating Black History Month, Diversity & Belonging
    Oct 23 2026

This is the official podcast from Technical Education Skills Trust, the operator of London Design & Engineering UTC, LDE UT6th Form, Engineering Skills College, East London Furniture Institute (ELFI), and the Industry & Educators Exchange (IndEX).

In this special Black History Month episode of Industry Ready, we meet Gill and Denise, our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Leads at LDE UTC, who share why celebrating diversity, recognising achievements, and creating a sense of belonging are so important within our college community. They explore the meaning of Black History Month, the inspiring contributions of Black inventors, engineers, and innovators, and why recognising different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences should be something we celebrate all year round. Learners and parents/carers will also hear about the exciting activities taking place across the college, from inspirational guest speakers and creative displays to opportunities for learners to get involved.

Gill and Denise also share how our learner-led EDI Society is helping students find their voice, share ideas, and play an active part in making LDE UTC a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone. They discuss the importance of representation, particularly when young people are thinking about their future careers, and how seeing people from different backgrounds succeed can inspire learners to believe in their own potential. This episode is a lovely reminder that everyone deserves to feel valued, included, and confident to be themselves — because when we celebrate our differences, we create a stronger community where everyone has the opportunity to shine! 😊
And don't forget to join us next week, when we'll hear directly from the learners involved in our EDI Society, sharing their experiences, ideas, and what being part of EDI means to them! 😊
