Can a man get a pedicure and keep his man card? Why do we trust a headline before we check the facts? And when did the barbershop become the place guys actually open up?
This week on The Alpha Edge Podcast, Kevin English and Coach Russell Medeiros cover everything from fishing boats and ridiculous feats of strength to fatherhood, fear-driven headlines, and the conversations men need to have.
Kevin’s back on the water with a new boat. Russell takes his teenage boys aboard a Coast Guard cutter - and discovers that three months in Alaska is a tough recruiting pitch when you’ve just shown them an office with free snacks.
Then things get interesting.
There’s a Turkish get-up that makes most of our gym accomplishments look considerably less impressive. Russell makes a confession about manicures. And the guys debate whether putting on a sharp suit qualifies as a performance enhancement.
But between the laughs, the conversation gets real - Where do men go when they need someone to listen?
Russell shares how his barbershop became a place to talk during a difficult separation - and why a haircut, a hot towel, and a roomful of guys meant more than he expected.
In this episode:
· Boats, brotherhood, and showing up: Fishing buddies, early mornings, and making time for the things you love.
· Fatherhood with teenagers: Creating opportunities to connect without forcing every moment.
· Strength beyond the bench press: Why the Turkish get-up gets Kevin’s vote for strength, balance, stability, and coordination.
· The great grooming debate: Manicures, massages, sharp suits, and the limits of the one-bar-of-soap lifestyle.
· Headlines versus reality: Checking the facts before letting the internet tell you how worried to be.
· Keeping your options open: Side hustles, useful skills, and a brief detour into disturbingly realistic robots.
· More than a haircut: Barbershops, honest conversations, and the value of having a place to let your guard down.
· This week’s edge: Russell recommits to his sleep routine. Kevin gets honest about his slipping step count.
