It is Fat Bear Week — which is exactly what it sounds like: some of Alaska’s biggest brown bears are competing to be crowned the fattest bear of the year. These bears spend the summer eating as much as they can, especially salmon, because that extra fat is what gets them through the long winter when they hibernate. And people around the world are watching their progress — and voting for their favourite chunky champion. Mike Fitz is a Resident Naturalist with Explore.org and one of the people behind Fat Bear Week, he spoke with Ken Connors.
