Confession: One of us has NEVER seen Freaked.
In this episode of Confessions of a Film Poser, we finally watch Freaked (1993) for the very first time and we were absolutely not prepared for whatever the hell this movie is.
Directed by Alex Winter and Tom Stern, Freaked is a completely unhinged cocktail of mutant monsters, gross-out comedy, insane practical effects, MTV-era chaos, and jokes flying at you faster than you can process them.
And somehow… it works.
From Alex Winter’s transformation into a hideous freak to Randy Quaid’s completely deranged Elijah C. Skuggs, we break down our raw first-time reaction, our favorite mutants, the practical effects, the jokes that absolutely destroyed us, and the bizarre story of how a movie THIS weird ever got made by a major studio.
Because Freaked isn’t just strange.
It feels like someone gave a bunch of lunatics millions of dollars, locked the studio executives out of the building, and told them to make the weirdest movie imaginable.
So why did Freaked disappear?
Was it simply too bizarre for audiences in 1993… or is this one of the most criminally overlooked cult comedies of the ’90s?
If you’re into first-time movie reactions, forgotten cult movies, practical effects, movie history, and honest, unfiltered takes… you’re in the right place.
