Our World This Week is a (mostly) weekly podcast from Fran and Rich, creators of the Floating Our Boat YouTube channel.

For the past eight years, we’ve been cruising the canals and rivers of Britain aboard our narrowboat Laura Maisie. In this podcast, we slow things down a little — talking honestly about life afloat, the everyday moments that shape our weeks, and the thoughts that surface when you choose a life less ordinary.

More personal and candid than our videos, Our World This Week offers a quieter window into our lives — reflections, stories, with the occasional laugh along the way.

Did we tell you it's HOT? Are We Ready to be Garden Judges?
    10 Jul 2026

It’s 32 degrees on the boat, and we are trying to stay "zen" while our power inverter throws a fit! In this week's episode, we share our recent visit to the RHS Flower Show, and how we are preparing for our next big adventure: judging the Aqua Vista in Bloom garden competition.

From struggling with our allotment plants to rethinking our stance on air fryers, it’s been a week of learning and slow-living challenges. We also touch on our recent sports-viewing marathons and the importance of helping local wildlife during these hot days.

    4 Jul 2026

We tackle the "empty palace" dilemma—why is Buckingham Palace sitting vacant while costing us a fortune? We also vent about the rising cost of living, the frustration of being "out of touch" with our own shopping bills, and we look back at the historical coincidences of American Independence Day.

Overcoming Heatwaves and Fran Always Has A Story To Tell.
    26 Jun 2026

In Our World This Week, we’re keeping it cool as we emerge from a record-breaking heatwave on the canal. From "sleeping in a plastic bag" (our mattress protector is to blame!) to the joys of slow living when temperatures soar, we’re unpacking life on the water and finding the silver linings.

Whether we're debating the proper way to serve a cream tea or discussing our gardening heroes, it’s all about living in the moment. Melt with us for a chat in the summer heat!
