McCabe & Mrs. Miller follows a small‑time gambler, John McCabe, who teams up with the sharp and business smart Constance Miller to build a successful brothel in a growing frontier town. Their partnership thrives, but when a powerful mining company tries to buy McCabe out, he refuses, believing he can stand up to them. The company sends hired killers, leading to a bleak, snow‑covered showdown where McCabe dies alone while the town is distracted by a fire. The film ends with Mrs. Miller retreating into an opium haze, highlighting how harsh and isolating their world really is and how the classic Western hero is more myth than reality.
