What happens when society stops thinking for itself?

In this episode of Dystopedia, we revisit Mike Judge’s 2006 sci-fi comedy Idiocracy — a film that has gone from overlooked box-office flop to one of the internet’s favourite examples of dystopian prophecy.

We explore how a world of mindless entertainment, corporate dominance, endless advertising and collapsing institutions feels increasingly familiar. Is Idiocracy really about people getting dumber, or is it a warning about what happens when critical thinking is discouraged and convenience becomes king?

We also discuss the film’s controversial opening montage, the debate over eugenics and class stereotypes, the power of advertisers, consumerism, social media, AI and the unsettling possibility that the future isn't quite as fictional as we once thought.

Are we living in Idiocracy, or have we completely missed the point?

In this episode of Dystopedia, we return to Raccoon City and revisit one of the most influential survival horror games ever made: Resident Evil 2 (1998).

We explore why the original remains so terrifying, from its fixed camera angles, limited resources and eerie pre-rendered backgrounds to its unforgettable atmosphere and sound design.

We also dive into the cancelled Resident Evil 1.5 prototype, the Raccoon City outbreak, Umbrella Corporation, Leon and Claire, and how the original compares to the modern remake.

Was Resident Evil 2 really as scary as we remember?
