Welcome to Dead Serious. This is the show where we cover true crime — the cases, the courts, and the absolutely unhinged way everyone loses their minds about it. We take the crimes seriously. We take the victims seriously. Everything else is fair game.

A revenge demon, a fake cancer diagnosis, twins drawn in blue marker, and a deputy U.S. Marshal receiving threatening emails, all within a mile of Disneyland. Like, seriously?

In this minisode, Amy breaks down the 2026 Netflix documentary A Toxic Love Story, which follows the bizarre Anaheim case of Michelle Hadley, her ex-fiancé Ian Diaz, and his new wife, Angela. When a series of “Lilithistruth” emails and a disturbing Craigslist ad surfaced in 2016, police were quick to blame the angry ex. Michelle spent 88 days in jail for a crime she did not commit, and that was only the first twist. What followed involved faked illnesses, a fake pregnancy, a federal investigation, and the man nobody wanted to look at.

Ames walks through both twists, where everyone is now, and whether the documentary is worth your ninety minutes, along with a hard look at how often survivors of abuse are disbelieved, and even arrested, while the person with the badge is taken at his word.

Full spoilers ahead. If you want to watch the documentary first, it is streaming now on Netflix.

Murder, Madness, and Death Row: The Christa Pike Story

In 1995, 18-year-old Christa Pike lured fellow Knoxville Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer to the University of Tennessee's Agricultural campus and murdered her. The crime was so brutal that Pike became the only woman on Tennessee's death row, where she would spend the next three decades.

Then, on September 30, 2026, the State of Tennessee finally tried to carry out her sentence. It was supposed to be the first execution of a woman in the state in more than 200 years. Instead, witnesses reported that both rounds of lethal injection chemicals were administered, and Pike was still alive. She was taken to an outside medical facility, and the governor has since suspended all executions for the year pending an independent review.

So, after 30 years of appeals, the state had one job. One.

This week on Dead Serious, we walk through the murder, the trial, the decades on death row, and the botched execution that has everyone asking what happens now. We also make sure Colleen Slemmer is remembered as more than a footnote in someone else's story.

Send us Fan MailThis week on Like, Seriously?, Ames dives into a mix of true crime headlines, court outcomes, and bizarre developments that leave us all asking, "Like, seriously?"First up is the recent 60 Minutes interview with Patrick Clancy, where viewers were expecting a much deeper conversation but instead got a brief segment that revealed little new information beyond the announcement that he and his partner are expecting another child. Ames shares her thoughts on whether that detail was even necessary to include. In Indiana, 31-year-old Kassandra Bracewell was sentenced to 33 years in prison after pleading guilty to neglect resulting in the death of 17-month-old Jaylen "JJ" Harding. Investigators determined the child's injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome, contradicting Bracewell's claim that he fell from a portable crib.In Florida, Matthew Weldon received a life sentence for killing Carroll Bryan with an axe after a dispute over a vehicle Weldon had loaned him. After the attack, Weldon reportedly confessed both to a neighbor and responding deputies. In Kentucky, 19-year-old Elijah Mayes faces multiple charges, including murder and abuse of a corpse, following the death of 11-month-old Grayson Walton. Authorities allege Mayes attempted to cover up the crime with fake text messages before the child's remains were discovered hidden inside a couch. The case became even stranger when the baby's step-grandfather was also arrested for evidence tampering. Finally, Ames discusses the shocking case of Christa Pike in Tennessee, whose execution reportedly did not go as planned after two rounds of lethal injection failed to stop her heart. Pike remained hospitalized in critical condition, adding another controversial chapter to an already infamous case. Ames also previews an upcoming full Dead Serious episode dedicated to Pike's story. As always, this minisode covers the kinds of cases and updates that leave true crime fans shaking their heads and wondering: Like, seriously?*UPDATE: Since this recording, Christa Pike has regained consciousness and is speaking * Like, Seriously is a minisode where Ames steps out of the case files and into the true‑crime universe itself. Documentaries, trial coverage, true‑crime books, media meltdowns, internet detectives, and the pop‑culture circus that forms around every high‑profile case. It’s the unfiltered commentary, the rant, the debrief, and the collective eye‑roll the true‑crime world deserves.
