  • The Miyazawa Family Murders: Japan's Most Baffling Unsolved Case | Deadly Intent
    Jan 28 2026

In the affluent Tokyo suburb of Setagaya, the Miyazawa family was preparing for New Year's Eve 2000 when their home became the scene of one of Japan's most perplexing crimes. Mikio (44), Yasuko (41), eight-year-old Niina, and six-year-old Rei were brutally murdered by an unknown intruder who then did the unthinkable—he stayed.

For up to 10 hours after the killings, the perpetrator made himself at home in their house. He ate four containers of ice cream, used their computer to browse the internet, attempted to buy theater tickets, and even took a nap on their sofa. He left behind a treasure trove of evidence: DNA, fingerprints, clothing, the murder weapons, and even unflushed feces containing traces of his last meal.

Despite this overwhelming forensic evidence and one of the largest investigations in Japanese history involving over 280,000 officers, the killer has never been identified. The case challenges everything we think we know about criminal behavior and investigative capabilities.

Join me as we examine the psychological profile of a killer whose intent extended far beyond murder—someone who wanted to violate every boundary of human decency and demonstrate his complete control over life, death, and the very concept of home as sanctuary.

This episode explores the darkest possibilities of criminal intent and asks the haunting question: what drives someone to not just kill, but to make themselves comfortable in the aftermath of their own evil?

Content Warning: This episode contains detailed discussions of violence against children and families.

  • The Martha Moxley Murder: The Alibi That Convicted Michael Skakel
    Jan 21 2026

In 1975, 15-year-old Martha Moxley was brutally murdered with a golf club in the exclusive Belle Haven neighborhood of Greenwich, Connecticut. When police questioned her neighbor, Michael Skakel, something chilling happened: he had a perfect alibi ready before anyone even asked for one.

This episode examines the psychological evidence that may have been more damning than any physical proof—how an unnaturally detailed, confident explanation revealed deadly intent rather than innocence. We explore the disturbing psychology of over-preparation, the role of privilege in delayed justice, and how the most dangerous alibis aren't the ones that fall apart... but the ones that are too perfect to believe.

From the insular world of America's wealthy elite to therapy recordings that shattered a decades-old lie, this is the story of how a "perfect" story became the most imperfect evidence of guilt.

    CASE DETAILS:

    • Victim: Martha Moxley, 15 years old
    • Suspect: Michael Skakel (Kennedy family connection)
    • Location: Belle Haven, Greenwich, Connecticut
    • Date: October 30, 1975
    • Weapon: Golf club from Skakel household

  • Fred & Rose West - Love, Marriage, and Murder as a Lifestyle
    Jan 14 2026

DEADLY INTENT - Episode 24: Fred & Rose West - Love, Marriage, and Murder as a Lifestyle

February 24th, 1994. Police arrive at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester with shovels and a search warrant, looking for one missing teenager. What they uncover is one of Britain's most horrific serial killing operations—a marriage built entirely around murder.

Fred and Rose West didn't stumble into violence. They systematically constructed it. Over more than twenty years, this husband-and-wife team turned an ordinary house into a killing ground and transformed murder into routine domestic activity. They refined their methods with each victim, evolving from reactive killers into calculated predators who genuinely enjoyed what they did.

Tonight, we examine the psychology of complementary pathology—when two dangerous individuals become exponentially more lethal together. We'll walk through their three distinct phases of criminal intent: from reactive concealment to recreational killing to systematized predation. And we'll analyze how Fred and Rose gave each other permission to act on their darkest impulses, creating a closed system where human life had no value beyond the pleasure it could provide them.

This isn't just about what they did—it's about understanding the intent that drove them to kill again and again, and how recognizing these patterns can help prevent future tragedies.

Content Warning: This episode contains detailed discussions of murder, sexual violence, child abuse, and torture. Listener discretion is advised.
