In this episode, we will talk to Japanese social and cultural psychologist, Dr. Yu Niiya. We will discuss her experience growing up in Switzerland and Japan, and compare these two experiences. We will also talk about her journey to becoming a social and cultural psychologist, and define each of these terms, and how they play out in Japanese society. We will discuss the Japanese concept of the self and how it shapes interactions, as well as the role of social norms and harmony in Japanese culture.
