Welcome to Chartlife, where your hosts Juliet and Ed travel back thirty years exactly to count down the UK Top 40 Singles Chart that week - in this case, 3rd November 1996.

Where we left it last time, the Spice Girls had made it two weeks at the top with their second single 'Say You'll Be There'. But the dreaded Singing Soldiers - Robson & Jerome - are back this week with a TRIPLE A-SIDE, and there are also new singles from Gina G, Simply Red, Babyface, 911, Bjork, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Tricky, My Life Story and BT featuring Tori Amos.

Last time out, the all-conquering Spice Girls had toppled Boyzone from the summit with 'Say You'll Be There'. Can they make it a second week at number one? There's huge songs from Toni Braxton and East 17 ft. Gabrielle to contend with, plus new singles from Madonna, Space, Alisha's Attic, Reef, Livin' Joy, R.E.M., Lightning Seeds and the Presidents Of The United States Of America! Oh, and a completely baffling cover of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'...
