What can human beings know about God apart from the Bible? And what does that mean for those who never hear the gospel preached?

In the first theological lecture from Reuben Burrow’s Medium Theology, Burrow explores natural revelation through creation, conscience, Romans 1, Romans 2, and the universal work of God. But his argument goes much further.

Burrow insists that there has never been more than one plan of salvation. Whether considering Job, Melchizedek, infants, the nations beyond the reach of Scripture, or those living before written revelation, salvation can only come through Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit.

At the center of the lecture is a conviction Burrow repeats throughout: God’s ways are equal. Greater light brings greater responsibility, and the gift of Scripture therefore gives the Church both a tremendous privilege and a tremendous obligation.

This episode begins our journey through the theological lectures of one of the early Cumberland Presbyterian Church’s most important teachers.
