The Let Grow Experience:

This is a monthly homework assignment for students K-8: “Go home and do something NEW on your own (with your parents’ permission): Walk the dog, make lunch, run an errand...something exciting!” A pilot study found independence worked faster than cognitive behavioral therapy on childhood anxiety! Here's a 4-min video of kids K-5 who did The Experience last year. And here’s our Let Grow co-founder Jonathan Haidt briefly explaining it. When kids do something new on their own, BOTH generations feel a surge of confidence and trust. Simply STEPPING BACK changes parents as much as kids. The cycle of anxiety is broken! Bonus: Want kids to spend less time in the VIRTUAL world? Give them back the REAL one. (A high school version is also available.)


The Let Grow Play Club:

Schools K-8 stay open for mixed-age, NO PHONES, lightly supervised free play before or after school. Social-emotional skills blossom, so does friendship (which makes kids WANT to come to school)! See this piece that documents discipline problems plummeting -- and parents overwhelmed with gratitude -- after a school started a Play Club. And here's a 2-minute video of all the different things kids do at a Play Club. The adults supervise like lifeguards, intervening only in emergencies! Kids organically learn to make their own fun, empathize, and solve problems. Unstructured play is the original social-emotional learning curriculum!
