Perhaps the most haunting and tragic love story ever written, Wuthering Heights is the tale of Heathcliff, a brooding, troubled orphan, and his doomed love for Catherine Earnshaw. His desire for her leads him to madness when Catherine is made to marry a wealthy lord, sending Heathcliff on a lifelong quest to avenge himself upon those who stole his only love and his life.

In this gripping chronicle of the never-ending conflict between the heart and the mind - and the pain and passion of true romance - Emily Brontë created an unforgettable classic saga of love, desperation, vengeance, and forgiveness. Published just one year before Brontë's death in 1848 at the age of 30, Wuthering Heights endures as one of the world's greatest love stories and a classic of English literature.

Opinie krytyków

"It is as if Emily Brontë could tear up all that we know human beings by, and fill these unrecognizable transparencies with such a gust of life that they transcend reality." (Virginia Woolf)

Full marks for a splendid performance! I especially enjoyed the wild Yorkshire passages: Anne Flosnik pronouces them with all the beautiful savageness they are meant to have. Nelly Dean is also more convincing than in other productions I know.

Love the Yorkshire accent!

I love these old stories. Beitifully read and always worth reading again and again and again.

classic

Unfortunately the attempts at interpreting the Yorkshire accent are very poor and detract from the enjoyment of the whole book.

Shame about the dialect

I listened to this story as one of the classics after enjoying sweet stories from Francis H Bernett and LM Montgomery and LM Alcott. This is not a sweet story. Pretty much all the characters are awful. Not really badly written but very bad society. There may be people who enjoy reading how characters plague one another, but it's not catering to my taste.

What misery
