Opinie krytyków

The arrival of Trainspotting was an earth-shaking cultural moment and it had a huge influence on me… This book sings and, in the darkest moments, it shines with humour and friendship. Every character here is alive (DOUGLAS STUART, Booker Prize-winning author of Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo)
Abhorrently dark and raw to the core, Trainspotting is an insight into one of life’s many ugly personalities — addiction and the accompanying domino effect of grim inevitabilities… Irvine Welsh’s novel will always be a cult classic.
Welsh’s skill as a storyteller is undeniable, bringing both wit and compassion to a grim subject matter. If you liked Danny Boyle’s film adaptation, you’ll love the original.
Welsh writes with a skill, wit and compassion that amounts to genius. He is the best thing that has happened to British writing for decades
One of the most significant writers in Britain. He writes with style, imagination, wit and force
The voice of punk, grown up, grown wiser and grown eloquent
An unremitting powerhouse of a novel - Loud with laughter in the dark, this novel is the real McCoy
A novel perpetually in a starburst of verbal energy - a vernacular spectacular...the stories we hear are retched from the gullet

I was very impressed by the accents, by the style, by the story - a masterpiece, truly.

So, as for many readers, English is not my first language.

Though I like Scottish culture and history, and I’m also kinda familiar with its dialect, reading a whole book in Scotts and understanding every bit, while also enjoying it, is not something many foreigners are capable of. The funniest thing was that I didn’t know that’s it’s written in Scotts before getting it. I tried to start reading it and got overwhelmed and confused very quickly.

Then, I experienced something similar to a eureka feeling, as I searched for the English version of it on Audible and downloaded it. Long story short, I started reading the book and listening to the audio version simultaneously. So, it was more like reading movie subtitles rather than just reading. Strange experience! I’ve never done something like that before, but to be completely honest, I feel like it is the best way to really feel this particular book. The narrators voice, his pronunciation is level above what you could hear in your own head, as a non-British person. I feel sorry for people who just have read the original piece, because I just can’t image them being as invested and pulled in by it, as us, who had listened to the audio book.

10/10 for the experience.

As a foreigner, don’t even bother reading the book, get this audio version
