RITA Award nominee Karen Witemeyer is acclaimed for her winning blend of history, humor, and romance. In this heartstirring tale, repentant exconvict Levi Grant comes to Spencer, Texas, in 1887 - hoping to put his past behind him and start out fresh as the town’s new blacksmith. To promote civility, Eden Spencer runs her own lending library, where she discovers Levi’s love of literature. But just as romance begins to bloom, Eden learns of Levi’s prodigal past.

The narrator was excellent! It seemed like different people were speaking for the various characters. She made the novel seem like a movie for me. Witemeyer has a gift of storytelling, including details so that the reader is able to easily imagine settings, costumes, action.

One Narrator, numerous distinct voices.

Karen Witemeyer has her own way of creating the whole scene before the inner eye of the reader (or listener). But it was the Story itself that made me realize so many things:
Humans are so quick to judge on what People have done or where they came from. But God has something better for everyone - grace and overwhelming love!
It made me realize that I was a stonecasting hypocrite so many times! God wants us to forgive and give second chances, just as he did with us! I was overwhelmed at all the emotions and conviction while listening.
I think I just found a new favorite book!

Beautiful and healing

The tender love against all odds which develops between two opposites is beautiful and challenging. The juxtaposition of unexpected courage in the weaker and softness in the stronger is mind blowing, challenging and beautiful.

The biblical challenges of facing one’s own hypocrisy and living with Christ like love.

What I loved about this book compared to another author was that the main characters had a certain maturity to begin with and still evolved more, together, in a natural pace, without unnecessary drama.

Lovely read!

Tolle Leserin.
Loved these story. Thank you
