Mit dieser Geschichte versinkt C. J. Tudor tief im Horror Genre und schon bei den ersten Sätzen hebt sich der Magen des Hörers. Wunderbar gerundet, so endet der Thriller auch überraschend. Dieser Alptraum in einer kalten und verschneiten Landschaft kostet einen eine schlaflose Nacht, man kann das Hörbuch nicht mehr weglegen und die rätselhaften und brutalen Whistlers steigern die Spannung. Dass Richard Armitage hier mit Nathalie Buscombe und Rachel Handshaw liest, ist aufgrund der Handlungsorte einleuchtend und alle Sprecher sind überzeugend. Vor allem Richard Armitage zeichnet sich hier durch eine hörerfreundliche Geschwindigkeit aus und gibt der wichtigen Figur Carter viel von seiner eigenen, tiefen Stimme. Dass es Richard Armitage gelingt, das von Tudor sehr, sehr oft verwendete "fuck" variantenreich zu lesen , ist nicht unerwartet. Ebenso sind die Dialekte von Caren, with a C, und dem unangenehmen Welland mehr als unterhaltsam. Inhaltlich hat C.J. Tudor ein hämorrhagisches, sehr ansteckendes Fieber zum roten Faden gemacht, dass der Verbrennungsofen nicht funktioniert und der vermeintlich süße Hund Dexter mit Mundgeruch immer wieder auftaucht, spitzt sich gegen Ende dramatisch zu. "Just me, myself and I again."
