Who is the baby the Texas Child Protection Services named Ruth Anne Lopez? Why, now that she is a teenager, is someone trying desperately to kill her?
Retired airman Billy Moody grabbed the pistol from Ruth Anne just as she pulled the trigger to commit suicide. He quickly won her trust and took her in. As Billy learns more about this kid and the abuse she had suffered as a foster child, he vows to provide her with a better life and to learn the truth of her birth. The only flaw in this plan is that he must keep the CPS, the system that failed Ruth Anne, from finding her. Well, that and protect her from someone who wants her dead. Billy employs a detective agency, and with the help of a newly accredited private investigator, learns about her surprising past and why her death is so important to someone.
