The highly anticipated sequel to Dreadnought, featuring "the most exciting new superheroes in decades." (Kirkus)

Only nine months after her debut as the superhero Dreadnought, Danny Tozer is already a scarred veteran. Protecting a city the size of New Port is a team-size job, and she's doing it alone. Between her newfound celebrity and her demanding cape duties, Dreadnought is stretched thin, and it's only going to get worse.

When she crosses a newly discovered billionaire supervillain, Dreadnought comes under attack from all quarters. From her troubled family life to her disintegrating friendship with Calamity, there's no lever too cruel for this villain to use against her.

She might be hard to kill, but there's more than one way to destroy a hero. Before the war is over, Dreadnought will be forced to confront parts of herself she never wanted to acknowledge.

And behind it all, an old enemy waits in the wings, ready to unleash a plot that will scar the world forever.

Wow! Rarely has a story evoked such intense feelings in me as this one. April Daniels is incredibly skilled at repeatedly placing the seemingly indestructible Dreadnought in the most dangerous situations without it ever seeming implausible — on the contrary: the uncompromising brutality makes this story extremely believable, and the protagonist's increasingly apparent vulnerability and the resulting fear are literally contagious. You soon realize that even a Dreadnought has her limits, and by the halfway point at the latest, I was in a state of constant positive stress and concern for the well-being of young Danny — feelings that often even stayed with me for hours after I turned off the audiobook.
This experience is further enhanced by the excellent narrator Natasha Soudek. She had no problems with the lighter and more positive emotions before. But even more than in the first part, Soudek succeeds here in conveying oppression, fear, anger, grief, and despair in an excellent way. While listening to the first part, I sometimes wished I could have read the book in my own tone. With this part, I'm glad I opted for the audiobook. Soudek delivers one of the best performances I've heard in over 15 years as an avid listener of around 200 audiobooks.
I wish more people knew this story. Highly recommended — 10/10!

The writing style is very boring and the performer does not match the main character well.
