'A joyful rendition of an iconic text' - Arundhathi Subramaniam

Saundarya Lahari is a popular Sanskrit hymn celebrating the power and beauty of Sakti, the primordial goddess. In one hundred verses, it underlines the centrality of the feminine principle in Indian thought.

Attributed to Adi Sankaracarya, Saundarya Lahari is a valuable source for understanding tantric ideas. Every verse is associated with yantras and encoded mantras for tantric rituals, and specific verses in the hymn are considered potent for acquiring good health, lovers, and even poetic skills.

This special audiobook edition of Saundarya Lahari, featuring the complete verses translated and narrated in English by Mani Rao and sung in Sanskrit by Karuna Sivasailaim, is an inspired, lyrical performance that renders the esoteric immediate and the distant near.

The Saundarya Lahari translation and the presentation of Mani Rao is very good in principal. However the production and to be not up to it. Sloka 60 is missing altogether! This is a shame... The actual audio listed under 60 is in fact 61. This from 60 onwards the numbering of the Slokas in the audio chapter list is incorrect! Strangely at the end, the closing credits run twice. Once at the last sloka, once under the correct chapter description. I wonder how that happened in the production without anybody realizing it. I hope it will be corrected and the audio book updated.
Would that flaw not be there, I would have given it a 5 star rating ...

A great rendition of an important scripture with a minute but relevant flaw
