Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear. Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want … at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects. But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment.

Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more. For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken. If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.

It's such a great urban fantasy story. Likable characters and a cute love story.
The last chapters were a whole new mood, though. Loved all of it... want more.

It's how I love my romantasy books

A Deal with Darkness – Dark Fantasy featuring Sirens, Fae & Slow-Burn Romance

“Bargainer, I want to make a deal with you.” – and that’s exactly what you get here: a dark, magical game of guilt, power and love.
Rhapsodic is a gripping dark romantasy featuring strong characters, a thrilling plot and a wonderfully sombre atmosphere. Callie, the clever, wounded siren, and Des, the dangerously seductive Bargainer, are two characters you simply can’t put down.
I particularly love the shifts between the present and the past – they give the story depth without slowing it down. Laura Thalassa’s prose is poetic, emotional and yet easily accessible.
Narrator Chelsea Stephans does a brilliant job: she perfectly captures Callie’s sarcasm, strength and vulnerability, and lends the story just the right tone. Her voice conveys the dark sensuality of the world as well as the quiet, emotional moments.

easy listening romantasy - not a very deep storyline, but ok. I liked the two main characters and hope the next book has a bit more depth.

Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa gets 3.5 stars and 2 chili peppers from me. While it didn’t quite meet my expectations, there were still elements I enjoyed.

The premise of this book is intriguing: magical debts, fae lore, and a dark romance—right up my alley! The relationship between Callie and The Bargainer is full of chemistry, and I loved the supernatural elements with sirens, fae, and werewolves. There’s also that edge of danger that kept me invested.

But despite its potential, the story left me wanting more. The world-building, for instance, felt too thin; I would’ve loved to explore more of the magical realms and systems. The constant back-and-forth between the present and seven years ago, while intended to show the history between Callie and The Bargainer, didn’t always flow well and occasionally disrupted the pacing.

When it came to their romance, The Bargainer’s quick shift from mysterious and brooding to overly affectionate felt a bit forced. Also, I couldn’t get on board with the nickname "Cherub." It just didn’t fit the tone for me. The spice was good, but it felt a bit out of place since the rest of the story had more of a YA vibe. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the whole book leaned into a more mature, adult tone.

As for the writing, while it had its cheeky moments, I would’ve liked more consistency between the darker elements and the humor. The constant switching between timelines sometimes made it difficult to stay immersed. I also wish the side characters were better fleshed out—they had so much potential to enrich the story but felt underdeveloped by the end.

All in all, Rhapsodic was enjoyable enough that I’ll be continuing the series, but it didn’t fully hit the mark for me. Here’s hoping the next book dives deeper into the world and the characters!

A good book. I do like the not only fae story and the main caracters.
Fae and Sirene, the worlds are well created and good described.
Fantasy, crime, romance ... It has it's dark insights and might trigger some but the story envolves well and does not go into to much dark details - more focus on the brighter aspects.
