Trotz gewöhnungsbedürftigem britischen Akzent: In die Stimme von Paul Thornley habe ich mich verliebt, weil sie ein perfektes Match mit Andy McNabs Erzählweise eingeht. Sein Protagonist Nick Stone fügt sich nahtlos in die Reihe der typischen Helden dieses Genres. Aber aus der Ich-Perspektive klingt das in weiten Teilen erfrischend unheroisch, und die vielen Hintergrunddetails der Story lassen vermuten, dass Nick Stone eigentlich das Alter Ego des Autors ist.
Die Handlung ist spannend vom ersten bis zum allerletzten Kapitel. Und man sollte von Anfang an genau hinhören, weil sich die Ereignisse über mehrere Zeitsprünge hinweg miteinander verbinden. Mittendrin steht ein siebenjähriges Mädchen im Mittelpunkt und verändert alles! Es ist die Beziehung zwischen diesen beiden ungleichen Protagonisten, welche die Handlung dominiert und somit das Hörbuch zu etwas ganz Besonderem macht.
