'Relic' ist einfach spannend. Vor dem Hintergrund eines Wissenschafts-Thrillers spielen sich blutrünstige Morde ab, die sich als genauso monströs herausstellen, wie es zunächst den Anschein hat. Ein illustres Team aus Figuren macht sich daran, das Rätsel zu lösen. Das Ganze dann auch noch im berühmten New Yorker Museum der Naturwissenschaft - eine hervorragende Kulisse für die erschreckenden Ereignisse.
Nachdem alle Figuren eingeführt sind und unterbrochen von wissenschaftlichen Exkursen gibt es immer wieder kleine Schreckensszenarien, bis die Geschichte in einem heftigen Showdown kulminiert, der nichts für zart besaitete Gemüter ist. Es geht blutig zu, ohne jedoch in reine Splatter-Gefilde abzusinken.
Die Erzählung macht Spaß: Colacci kniet sich rein, wenn es um D'Agosta's New Yorker Akkzent geht und um Pendergast's melodischen "Southern drawl". Außerdem gibt es hallende Museumsräume und das statische Knistern von Funkgeräten.
Sicher gibt es tiefsinnigere und elegantere Thriller. Aber 'Relic' ist einfach eine blutspritzende, gut getimte Achterbahnfahrt mit einer tollen Truppe, und mehr hatte ich auch gar nicht erwartet.
