Nell Gallows is the sole survivor of an elite dark forces squad, Riøt, after a detrimental attack two years ago.

Unsurprisingly, she's being put up as the top candidate for the special ops team Malum, the squad that goes where no one else will or can. There's only one problem: Malum blames their one casualty from the Patagonia mission on the Riøt squad.

So what is she to do when she finds herself on a plane to California and on her way to a sure death sentence? A one-night stand. At least, that's all it was supposed to be—one last night to be free. Only, she finds out too late that the dark and mysterious man she solely wanted as a fling is not only her new comrade but also the one she dreaded meeting most—her immediate superior and untouchable devil in the field. Bones.

He's hell on earth—cruel and unforgiving, but most of all, he hates her, and he makes sure she knows it. And yet, she finds herself unwilling to leave his side when he's unable to get to the evac point when their mission goes awry.

She stays behind with the devil and the secrets he keeps. They only have one another to trust when no faith is left.

This story is so dark and tragic it made my heart feel heavy as stone but it‘s mixed with the perfect amount of love and spice to make it bearable.

heart gripping

Im a dude, I appreciate a good romance book, never got into dark romance though. this books beautiful way of merging a thrilling story, somewhat tasteful eroticism (lol) and it's ability to actually pull my heartstrings, makes me want to give the entire genre another chance.
The English narration really shined here, both did a stellar job.

The book that actually opened my heart for modern/ dark romance

I’ll never understand why, when you have such great narrators, you’d choose dual narration instead of letting them tell the story as a duet. It completely breaks the immersion every time the female narrator tries to sound as masculine as the male narrator naturally does, and vice versa. Such a shame. Just another missed opportunity for an otherwise really nice and interesting story.

Awesome narrators, good story, but..

The story lacks complexity and depth. It started off well and was even exciting until the middle. But after that, it no longer feels realistic, there is no character development, and the plot becomes increasingly unrealistic and contrived, raising more questions than I would like. There could have been more potential here, but the story jumps and picks up speed—it feels as if the story was tailored to fit the sex scenes. I don't understand the hype. There are currently other books that are similar but still manage to be realistic and make more sense until the end. Nevertheless it wasn't a waste of money and it was somehow okay....

wasn't a waste but not good either...
