The swimming pool was the one place Mark Edwards always felt safe—until a scorching August evening when a misfired cannonball drenched three bully brothers while John the lifeguard was in the bathroom. One bully clamped Mark’s head in a vise like grip and forced him under, holding him down until he swallowed water. Everything went silent as Mark dropped to the bottom—and that’s when he saw all three brothers dive in after him.
Mark escaped with his new underwater skills. When he finally got out of the pool, shaken and gasping, he saw something the bullies didn’t: Laura, her beautiful blond hair catching the early evening sun, walking down the hill with his older brothers, Adam and Carl—all three unaware just how much their little brother needs them.
But when Laura reached the pool deck and saw the youngest bully give Mark a bloody nose, while his brothers held Mark’s arms, her reaction stunned everyone watching. The bullies saw Laura had beauty, but nothing could prepare them for the beast within. This true story shows the bond of family, the power of a girl who refused to back down, and the moment a little brother understood he was not alone.
