The speaker is very good.
But it isn't neccessary, that the author bring his own experience into the book. It's the story of Alex, not of the author!

Good supplement to the movie

Es ist spannend, was für ein interessantes Buch der Author rund um das Leben eines etwas seltsamen - und im Endeffekt äußerst erfolglosen - 24 jährigen Aussteiger gewoben hat. Für mich war es sehr berührend und kurzweilig.

Ich war von der Verfilmung Sean Penns mit ihren berauschenden Bildern so begeistert, dass ich mir unbedingt die Vorlage anhören wollte. Auch um vielleicht noch mehr über das Leben und Sterben von Christopher McCandless zu erfahren, der aus der Zivilisation aussteigen wollte und schließlich mit seinem jugendlichen Enthusiasmus und seiner Unerfahrenheit in Alaska ums Leben gekommen ist.
Und natürlich erfährt man im Buch viel mehr über die Hintergründe. Besonders gefallen hat mir, dass Krakauer den tragischen Helden Christopher McCandless weder heroisiert noch als dummen Jungen hinstellt, der sein Leben leichtsinnig aufs Spiel setzt.
Schön ist auch, dass er dem Fall McCandless zwischendurch kurze Berichte über andere Abenteurer gegenüberstellt, die ihr Heil auch in einem Leben in und mit der Natur gesucht haben. Sogar von eigenen, nicht ungefährlichen Abenteuern als junger Bergsteiger in Alaska erzählt Krakauer.
Auch für Nicht-Muttersprachler ist dieses englischsprachige Hörbuch sehr gut verständlich, was nicht zuletzt am sehr klaren und zurückgenommenen Vortragsstil von Philip Franklin liegt.
Genauso wie den Film werde ich auch dieses Hörbuch sicher nicht das letzte Mal genossen haben!
