You can never go wrong with reading, hearing or watching Ruth Goodmans work. Detailed and in-depth but easy to follow, sometimes funny, often surprising, always a joy. This one especially is a treasure worth a few re-readings (or listenings), the light and understandable tone betrays the massive amount of information that was just too much to handle at the first time. Or maybe that's just me having learned English as a second language and struggling a bit with the occasional Tudor English vocabulary :)

Ruth Goodman schreibt total interessant - man taucht als Hörer in eine lang vergangene Zeit ein und erlebt so einen Detailreichtum, es ist toll! Aber die Sprecherin liest so entsetzlich langweilig, das es kaum auszuhalten ist.
Wenn man Ruth Goodman selbst schon mal ihre eigenen Texte lesen gehört hat, wird es umso unerträglicher - es geht offensichtlich besser! Denn normalerweise lesen die Autoren weniger toll als die Sprecher, sie sind ja nicht die Profis. Aber hier...

I enjoyed this book a lot! The author knows what she is talking about, and has even personally tried it all out herself.

I love Ruth Goodmans work and especially the way she writes because it shows her sharp wit and sense of humour. But though I like the voice of the narrator her reading sometimes appears a bit robotic like someone who reads a text without grasping what the story is all about.

Das Thema ist eigentlich irrsinnig interessant, und wer die Dokus mit Ruth Goodman kennt, weiß, wie spannend sie erzählen kann. Ein Jammer, dass sie die Bücher nicht selber einspricht! Die hiesige Sprecherin - ich will ihr ungern zu nahe treten, aber es ist auf Dauer schwer erträglich. Ich frage mich angesichts der nervigen Intonation, ob sich dahinter wirklich ein echter Mensch verbirgt — oder doch eine KI? 😵‍💫
