Najtrafniejsze
Ich bin eigentlich ein großer Fan der Werke von Margaret Weis und Tracy Hickman. Ihre legendäre Dragonlance-Reihe hat mich damals stark geprägt und war für mich ein prägender Einstieg in die Fantasy-Literatur. Genau deshalb habe ich auch The Death Gate Cycle begonnen – mit entsprechend hohen Erwartungen.

Leider konnte mich diese Reihe bisher deutlich weniger überzeugen.

Ein Problem für mich ist, dass sich die Bücher teilweise wie eigenständige Geschichten anfühlen. In jedem Band wird man erneut in neue Welten und neue Figuren eingeführt, wodurch man sich immer wieder komplett neu orientieren muss. Dadurch fällt es mir schwer, eine dauerhafte Bindung zu den Charakteren aufzubauen.

Die Reihe hat durchaus interessante Ideen und einzelne spannende Momente, aber insgesamt konnte sie mich emotional nicht so packen, wie ich es mir erhofft hatte. Gerade im Vergleich zu Dragonlance fehlt mir hier etwas die kontinuierliche Entwicklung der Figuren und der rote Faden über mehrere Bücher hinweg.

Nach mehreren Bänden habe ich daher gemerkt, dass mich die Geschichte nicht dauerhaft fesselt. Das ist schade, denn ich hatte mir aufgrund der Autorinnen wirklich mehr erhofft.

Vielleicht funktioniert die Reihe für Leser, die episodische Fantasy-Welten mögen – für mich persönlich bleibt sie jedoch hinter meinen Erwartungen zurück.
