A masterful, heart-palpitating novel of small-town horror and psychological dread from a Bram Stoker nominee.

Aaron Decker's life changes one December morning when his wife, Allison, is killed. Haunted by her absence - and her ghost - Aaron goes through her belongings, where he finds a receipt for a motel room in another part of the country. Piloted by grief and an increasing sense of curiosity, Aaron embarks on a journey to discover what Allison had been doing in the weeks prior to her death.

Yet Aaron is unprepared to discover the dark secrets Allison kept, the death and horror that make up the tapestry of her hidden life. And with each dark secret revealed, Aaron becomes more and more consumed by his obsession to learn the terrifying truth about the woman who had been his wife, even if it puts his own life at risk.

Ein gutes Hörbuch, unterhaltsam, spannend, gut geschrieben (ein Autor, der es versteht, mit seinen Worten Bilder zu malen). Der Sprecher ist angenehm. Insgesamt empfehlenswert.

Überdurchschnittlich

This was one of the best grief writing what i have read. The novel was well balanced, i really liked the characters, and the little-town-myths were unique. The narration was not really for me, i could not distinguish the characters just from the voice-acting and sometimes the dialoges were complicated to follow because of this.

Write your grief out

An intriguing story with a few twists and an unexpected ghost. The author suggests a few things without following up on them - like making me wonder what exactly the future wife was diving for when the protagonist first met her, as she scribbles everything down in her later famous notebook. But far from being a loose end, this just adds more intrigue, which I personally appreciated. Definitely worth listening to.

Solid ghost/ crime story

Malfi's prose is amazing, and this little thriller is sure to have you hooked right from the start. It's not groundbreaking in any sense of the word, and the final minutes might diminish your enjoyment of the entire book, but the narration makes up for that.

Solid story with a divisive ending
