Every once in a while a great race horse is born that will become famous throughout the land. This book is about such a horse. Perhaps even rarer comes a truly wonderful story about a horse and the human being closest to it. Two beings, horse and human, are bound in an unspoken love and respect which draws the finest from both of them.
This book by award-winning author Kathleen Peyton, tells their story. It is beautifully written and immensely moving in the properly unsentimental fashion that only a born horsewoman and writer could achieve.

"Four-year-old Tessa is heartbroken when her parents divorce and she must leave Shiner, the blind horse that her father bred. She’s had a difficult life and has no interest in anything until she encounters the ugly but great racehorse Buffoon, who happens to be Shiner’s colt. Narrator Nicki Paull captures the difficult and angry Tessa and everyone she meets on the road to becoming a relative rarity-a female jockey. The story’s horse lore remains interesting for most listeners, thanks to Paull’s thoughtful delivery. Horse lover old and young will enjoy it." (AudioFile Magazine)
