Nicht nur die weiteren Teile der "Grey Death Trilogie", sondern vor allem auch die "Warrior Trilogie" von Michael A. Stackpole sind Perlen der ursprünglichen Battletech Roman Reihe, die von den 80ern bis in die späten 90er erschienen ist.
"Decision at Thunder Rift" ist der erste Battletech Roman einer langen Reihe von verschiedenen Autoren. (Von leider auch wechselnder Qualität.)
"Thunder Rift" beschreibt das Geschehen aus der Sicht des jungen Grayson Death Carlyle, einem Mechwarrior Anwärter, der unfreiwillig in eine politische Intrige hineingezogen wird, nachdem er in Folge eines Verrats auf dem Planeten strandet, welchen die Söldner-Kompanie seines Vaters als Garnision beschützen sollte.
Mit Mut, Geschick und einer Portion Glück gelingt es Grayson einen Widerstand gegen die Feinde zu organisieren.
"Thunder Rift" beschreibt gekonnt die Gegebenheiten des Battletech-Universums, ohne den Leser gleich mit Unmengen an Namen von Protagonisten und Setting-spezifischen Ausdrücken zu überschütten.
Deshalb auch ein guter Roman für Neueinsteiger.
