O tym tytule
The Owl Taxi (1919) is Hulbert Footner's fast-paced New York mystery featuring Greg, a young taxi driver who doubles as a resourceful amateur detective. One night he is hired by a girl in boy's clothes and a sinister party of Spanish-Americans, and before long he is entangled with a blackmail ring led by the elegant Francisco de Socotra, a stolen "little black book" that holds the ring's secrets, and the girl — whose real name is Amy Wilmot — held under constant surveillance. From the taxi yard and the Hotel Meriden to the Stickney Arms and the Hotel dos Estados Unidos, Greg races across 1920s Manhattan by flivver, disguising, shadowing and breaking in on de Socotra's trail. A vivid, slang-savvy tale of wit, chase and romance, The Owl Taxi blends the thriller and the detective story with Footner's trademark dry humor and a satisfying close in which the blackmailers meet their Nemesis.
