"The Introvert's Apocalypse" is a satirical and deeply relatable speculative novella narrated by an unnamed, middle-aged introvert. The story begins on a Tuesday when the world suddenly goes silent. There is no fire, no bang, no zombiesjust a complete cessation of all digital communication, mass transit, and public noise. While the extroverted world descends into panic and confusion, our narrator feels an overwhelming sense of relief. The apocalypse, for her, is not a disaster but a long-awaited vacation from the relentless demands of social interaction. The narrative unfolds as a series of quiet observations and small-scale adventures from the safety of her apartment. She reconnects with her sentient, opinionated couch, learns to savor the silence, and initially resists forming connections. However, the collapse of "normal" forces a new kind of society. Through a series of gentle, practical crisesa broken water pump, a neighbor's injury, a small fire, and a misguided attempt at food rationingthe narrator is drawn out of her isolation. She slowly builds a new, low-pressure community with her neighbors: Kevin, an anxious extrovert learning to be alone; Robert, a natural organizer who learns the value of asking instead of directing; Maya, a pragmatic former logistics worker who values her privacy; and Mr. Bell, a retired music teacher who just wants to be left in peace. Through these interactions, she learns that independence is not the same as isolation, that asking for help is a skill, and that connection can be found on her own terms. The novella concludes not with the world returning to normal, but with the narrator finding a new, sustainable normalone that includes quiet mornings, a few select friends, and the freedom to leave the party early.©2026 Rhoshell Baker (P)2026 Rhoshell Baker
