"A groundbreaking book that redefines what it means to be in a relationship."
--John Gray, PhD., bestselling author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus

We already rely on science to tell us what to eat, when to exercise, and how long to sleep. Why not use science to help us improve our relationships? In this revolutionary book, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. Amir Levine and Rachel Heller scientifically explain why why some people seem to navigate relationships effortlessly, while others struggle.

Discover how an understanding of adult attachment—the most advanced relationship science in existence today—can help us find and sustain love. Pioneered by psychologist John Bowlby in the 1950s, the field of attachment posits that each of us behaves in relationships in one of three distinct ways:

• Anxious people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner's ability to love them back
• Avoidant people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness.
• Secure people feel comfortable with intimacy and are usually warm and loving.

Attached guides listeners in determining what attachment style they and their mate (or potential mate) follow, offering a road map for building stronger, more fulfilling connections with the people they love.

*Includes a PDF of the attachment style questionnaire

"Amir Levine and Rachel Heller have written a very smart book: It is clear, easy to read and insightful. It's a valuable tool whether you are just entering a relationship with a new partner or-as in my case--even after you've been married 21 years, and had thought you knew everything about your spouse."
-Mariette DiChristina, editor in chief, Scientific American

It made me re-think my last relationships and realise my own attachment style. I applied it's suggestions to my current relationship and I got benefits from it.

Very insightful and easy to understand

According to the authors, there are 3 types of attachment patterns 1. secure 2. anxious and 3. avoidant. all 3 types boils down to one's attachment pattern with their parents as babies/young kids, genetics and previous romantic experience. the book offers great coping techniques for conflict resolution. one criticism I would make is that the authors do not drive enough attention to the fact that avoidant treatment in a relationship can actually be pathological and actively destroying the partners personality and I miss how these avoidant people can really be driven into understanding their hurtful behaviour in order that they stop destroying other peoples and ultimately their own chances of ever attaching inappropriate healthy manner.

I’ve learnt quite a lot from this book and am pretty sure I’m anxiously attached. This book also provides some practical and actionable tips that I will definitely try in the future.

Despite author’s slightly biased opinions towards the avoidant attachment, I will still highly recommend this book to anyone who is sometimes confused of their behaviors in the relationship

A good read of introducing attachment style

Maybe it is the reader, but I found this book terribly long-winded. It contains a lot of charts, which are difficult to comprehend in an audio book format. The tests at the end are helpful to test your knowledge

Helpful yet long-winded

this book gives answers to so many long-unanswered questions about the inner self - how our attachment style is formed in childhood, what a huge impact it has on our attachment in adult relationships, and how we can become aware of unhealthy patterns and turn them around to our benefit. this should be a must-read for every adult person, particularly, when they struggle in romantic relationships and / or plan to raise children.

this has been one of the most valuable reads ever and will undoubtedly stay a piece of reference for many years to come.

priceless insights!
