A belligerent springtide!

Being the most powerful wizard in the world can be a challenge....

After defending his fledgling realm against the undead lord Gaja Katar all winter long, Count Minalan of the Magelaw faces a new threat in the spring: the Nemovort Shakathet, favored of Korbal, leading the mighty hordes out of the Penumbra. This time, Minalan faces a real strategist; one who drives his armies with purpose and efficiency. The road to war leads through Megelin Castle and the vulnerable lands to the south of Vanado. Old enemies will become allies, and old friends will become valuable assets.

War, however, is not what is preoccupying Minalan; the knowledge of the end of the world is. As he broods on existential issues and debates with various goddesses and Alka Alon about Calidore’s fate, he must overcome his own fears and anxieties and impose order on the situation before everything goes into the chamber pot.

The solution? Hire an Arcanist, a specialist in the obscure and trivial, to organize and investigate the many matters Minalan has to manage and bring them to order.

Wenn man bis hier gehört hat, wird man es wohl weiter tun. John Lee nimmt man die verschiedenen Rollen auch ab.

Es bleibt spannend

I am a huge fan of the series, but the last two books i found a bit repetive. They start extremly slow with lots of world building and end with endless carange. So the beginning is sometimes a bit boring and in the end we have so much that you start to ignore who kills who with what.
This book has the same weaknesses but it is far more entertaining in it.

But there is a huge part of the book that was so annoying if this conintues i don't know if i will sotp this series:
Since the Scifi aspect of this book has been annouced i have asked myself questions which made no sense for me.
How the alcalone reacted to humans eventhough they new them before their fall and as this takes place somewhere in our future you can imagine what technology we would have brought to that land. What will happen when we finally see modern technology set into the mix. I love fantasy and don't like Scifi that much, but in this story i would find it extremly satisfing to see some battleships bomb the evil forces while they stare in horror.

In the past it was just not mentioned and I guessed the Wizards are just to uneducated to ask the right questions, but sadly in this book the author starts to explain things and everytime this subject is breached it makes absolutly no sense. The wizards are due to their power to see stuff with magic about the same level of physics we are nowadys, but they cannot use all this eventough they can see it (nuclear explosions, energy creation by splitting atoms....). Not to mention to invent basic rifles in help with the robot. They even ask him, du you know something that could help us and he says now. I think every school child knows that the inclution of rifles ended the medieval area, because they were so efficient and easy to use that all past tactis became obsolet, but not this robot? Yes this may be nitpicking, but this is the level of logic EVERY conversation in this book has related to this topic. I think the author needs a beta reader who undrestands something of technology or go back to leave it so vague you can use you own imagination and come up with a better explanation than the author...

Great book but the SCIFI part really defies logic
