Becoming a legend is not easy, as young Alanna of Trebond discovers when she disguises herself as a boy and begins training to be a knight. Alanna's skills and stubborness help her befriend Prince Jonathan and alienate his evil uncle, Duke Roger. Filled with swords and sorcery, adventure and intrigue, good and evil, this book is a rousing introduction to the intensely satisfying story of Alanna.©1983 Tamora Pierce; (P)2000 Random House, Inc., Listening Library, an Imprint of the Random House Audio Publishing Group Science fiction i fantasy

Read well and with love. Alanna was my role model when growing up, and I am still impressed by this rare example of a female character that breaks so many trite conventions.

One of my favorite children's books...

I rearward this book as an adult, and I can confirm it is still some of the best YA fantasy out there.

This book is the first of a four part story. I love Tamora Pierce's books and considering that this one is the first she ever wrote, it's really great. I've read the books at least five times (in english as well as in german) and was thrilled when I realised that they are also available as audio books. I was even more thrilled about the fact that the audio books are unabridged.
My expectations for this audio book haven't been disappointed. Trini Alvarado reads wonderful and has the ability the give each person its own, specific voice. She understands it also to read the story in a passionate way, so it doesn't seem exaggerated but contains feelings.
Therefore even someone who loves the books as I do will certainly not be disappointed by this audio book - as unfortunately too often happens - and listen to it enthusiastically, as will all who don't know the story yet.
It's most certainly worth listening to.

Amazing beginning of an even more amazing story
