Perhaps not the most original story, but David Nicholls writes his characters so vividly that you really feel like you know them as friends by the end of the book.

Brilliant characters

A classic rom com in the best sense. The characters are warm and funny, though sometimes you want to shake them a little.

Not for you if you're looking for big surprises and twists or complex characters.

You'll like this if you're looking for an easy Lough and read or if you're in heartbreak-mode and need confirmation that we all act like idiots when we're sad ;)

David Nicholls is an amazing writer and this novel is a perfect example of that.
BUT: and this is a huge BUT-the woman who reads the female part swallows whole words in her attempt to sound cool or authentic. Though, honestly, her mix of posh and slurred pronunciation is neither. The non native English speaking listener is often forced to revert to the written text in order to grasp the jokes or allusions. My English is really good, I lived in the USA for years, but I still don't get many of her mumbled half formed sentences. The male parts, on the other hand, are excellently read.
