They are even more unprepared for the monsters they find inside the man's mind. Drawn into a memory where it's hard to figure out where the truth exists, they realize that there may be more to the serial killer than they originally thought. The dark world draws the two men together in a way they never dreamed. It will take everything Chevy and Seneca can give to stop the darkness that could consume their minds. As the two are forced to face what is keeping them apart, together they realize that there's more to the mind and heart than either of them know.

This book, the sequel and an other trilogy I have access for free because of my abo.
"Within the mind" hooked me and I choosed to listen that one first. It's a very well written Paranormal horror gay romance.
As the blurb tells Chevy can watch the memories of other people when he touches them and he and his colleague Seneca do this for victims of crimes to help the police find the culprit.
But this time they are faced with a man who might be not a victim but a serial killer. And the what they are meeting in his mind are definitely not his memories. It's scary as hell. I sometimes wanted to shout out Chevy to run faster to escape the horror. The case has a lot of investigation to do and it was nice to watch the gathering of pieces, hints and crime scene visits.
Chevy and Seneca have been working together quite a while. But Chevy never gave something about when Seneca tries to whoo him. Because Seneca can charm whoever he wants and does only engage in one night-stands and nothing attached. But working this case and surviving horror scenarios pulls the men closer together. The romance had just the right pace for me. And did not silence other parts of the story but fitted right in. The introvert booklover and the peacock make a wonderful match.
If you're sensible about horror scenarios be careful with yourself because it's not a dailylife romance , but otherwise I would highly recommend this book.
OH, and the narrator is to be applauded.

As funny as it is spooky

Der „Kriminalfall“ war unglaublich gut und von Zeit zu Zeit auch echt gruselig. Ich mochte es, wie phantastische Elemente mit eingebaut wurden und dadurch auch ganz neue Möglichkeiten erschaffen wurden.
Unsere Hauptcharaktere sind wahrer Zucker, auch wenn mir das pubertäre „Ohoho, der hat Penis gesagt“ und so weiter doch oft auf die Eierstöcke gegangen ist.
Aber hey, Alice Winters ist extrem konsequent mit ihren Charakterisierungen und so kann ich es verzeihen. Vor allem Seneca ist in diesem Bereich einfach ein hoffnungsloser Fall und irgendwann war er mir absolut symapthisch, obwohl ich mich oft fremdgeschämt hab :’D

Ich LIEBE Joel Leslie. Dieser Mensch liest einfach so krass und intensiv, dass ich Gänsehaut bekomme.

How someone can come up with such a twisted villain is beyond me! I'm not so good with horror, and many times I wasn't sure what was real and what wasn't. I honestly can't tell you to much, because I don't want to spoil anyone - but if you are hesitant whether to read this one or not - Do it!!
Chevy seems to be the shy type and a little bit like the tsundere in Anime. But I'm really satisfied how he grew into the story and pushed through, also the end was very good and gave me peace after all the stuff that happened.

In the beginning I quite liked the friendly antagonistic bickering between the MC but they never stopped. There was no normal or professional conversation between them. It just got on my nerves that I couldn’t continue listening.
It’s really sad because the over all story was quite interesting.
The reading was excellent.
