Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before

The audiobook of Witches Abroad is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'You can't go around building a better world for people. Only people can build a better world for people. Otherwise, it's just a cage.'

There's power in stories. The Fairy Godmother is good. The servant girl marries the Prince. Everyone lives happily ever after... don't they?

The witches Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick are travelling to far-distant Genua to stop a wedding and save a kingdom. But how do you fight a happy-ever-after, especially when it comes with glass slippers and a power-hungry Fairy Godmother who has made Destiny an offer it can't refuse?

It's hard to resist a good story, even when the fate of the kingdom depends on it...

'No one mixes the fantastical and mundane to better comic effect' Daily Mail

'One of our greatest fantasists, and beyond a doubt the funniest' George R.R. Martin

Witches Abroad is the third book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Kritikerstimmen

'A true orginal among contemporary writers'

'His jokes are the best thing since Wodehouse. His comic footnotes are still glorious'

'Pratchett's writing is a constant delight. No-one mixes the fantastical and mundane to better comic effect or offers sharper insights into the absurdities of modern endeavour'

As an old Pratchett fan, I always feel uneasy when new adaptions of any kind are made. Also, I dislike female reading voices in general.

Nevertheless this new recording has caught me with it's charme and talented voicing. Even though English is not my native language, every word is understandable and it's a pleasure to hear the difference between the all the characters.
I love it.

A genius writer and a genius audio book reader

This is one of Terry Pratchett' s greatest stories.
To state "this book has been well read" for this audiobook is a great understatement! What a marvelous production. It keeps the listener spellbound to the last minute.

Exceptionally great audiobook

Terry Pratchett at Bestform: another superb Story of Esme Weatherwax and her fellow witches about fairy-tales and their Discworld equivalent, with speaker Indira Varma having fun to play each person.

Magnificient!

I absolutely loved it! Yes, some of the humour and innuendos came straight out of the 90s but there was so much more to this story! I enjoyed how the relationship between the 3 witches develops: novice witch and fairy godmother Margrat Garlick, grumpy head witch Esme Weatherwax and kind Nanny Ogg. They head off to Genua on their brooms to stop Emberella marrying the prince and to stop the other evil godmother. Sounds simple and predictable but there are so many layers to it and between laughing there were also some profound observations on living ones lives. I really enjoyed it, and the audiobook was wonderfully narrated. I’ve been meaning to read Terry Pratchett’s discworld series for ages and I’m happy finally I managed!

My first (but not last!) discworld book

I don’t know how much praise I need to leave for the story as such, the Witches books by Terry Pratchett are beloved, and rightfully so. The narration by Indira Varma really knocks it out of the park! Her voice is perfect for the story, and the voices she does for the characters are well done.

Wonderful narration
