Über diesen Titel

After a confession of murder, a sleuthing English teacher will need a Christmas miracle to prove a condemned man innocent.

Colorful Christmas lights dapple the family homes in the idyllic lakeside town of Sweet Haven when Jennifer Dean, a young librarian at the local elementary school, is brutally murdered. There are witnesses and her boyfriend Travis Blake confesses to the crime...but something doesn't quite add up. Blake is a third generation Army Ranger, awarded the Silver Star for his heroism in Afghanistan - how could a beloved son of this tight-knit burgh commit such a grisly deed?

As a community of military families a few miles down the road from an Army base, no one in Sweet Haven wants to investigate a war hero like Blake, not even the top brass at the police department. In steps Cameron Winter, a rugged and lonesome English professor haunted by the ghosts of his own Christmas past, whose former lover asks him to prove Blake innocent. The Sweet Haven murder reverberates in his mind, echoing a horrific yuletide memory from his youth, and Winter knows there are darker powers at play here than a simple domestic dispute. If he can solve this small-town mystery, just maybe he can find peace from his inner demons as well.

…great narrator. A professor of literature, with an interesting past, sets out on a task to find some mitigating material for a murderer. What he unravels is a story of pain, escape and revenge. What a great read. Highly recommendable, but nit gor the faint hearted.

Great plot…

This is actually more than a story. It's a story in a story in a story. Listen to it. You won't regret it. Great Voice too.

We reveal ourselves in the stories we tell.

You don’t want to stop. So well written. Definitely a great book to listen to and well read.

Great and unpredictable story.

DNF'd it almost three times. This was either written by AI or by a very insecure man.

The way the male characters were never at fault for their "deep, brooding darkness", and always victim of their circumstance and the women in their life, was infuriating.
Speaking of the women - they are nothing but objects in this book. Their loss of innocence and value is always deeply mourned. In this book, women are either blond, adolescent virgins with value, or corrupted, bald lesbians and dark haired (and I quote here) "gypsies" who ruin their value and future by getting piercings and tattoos.

Not to speak of how the "evil" men are always ugly (face deformities, small and fat, troll-like), while our main protagonist is described as angelic and tragically sad. Oh woe is him.

I just can't express how bad this book is.

Insufferable
