    Inhaltsangabe

After bursting onto the fantasy scene with his acclaimed debut novel, Elantris, and following up with his blockbuster Mistborn trilogy, Brandon Sanderson proves again that he is today's leading master of what Tolkien called 'secondary creation', the invention of whole worlds, complete with magics and myths all their own.

Warbreaker is the story of two sisters who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago. Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can be collected only one unit at a time from individual people.

By using breath and drawing upon the colour in everyday objects, all manner of miracles and mischief can be accomplished. It will take considerable quantities of each to resolve all the challenges facing Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris; Susebron, the God King; Lightsong, reluctant god of bravery; and mysterious Vasher, the Warbreaker.

    to recommend

Good and interesting story, which took quite some time for me to get in to. the first chapters where rather tidious, I felt. The end somewhat flat - very American. Overall, creative plot, that gains from its twists and turns.

    Good VA, fine story

I liked her voice a lot, she did her VA very well. The story has two huge issues to me personally, while little of it was predictable to me personally, the end result of the plots seemed silly, yet still managed to move away from being predictable. (SPOILER COMING UP) 1.) I disliked that the plot progression, while hinted to, seemed silly. The mercs just being mercs, etc. 2.) Who, by the nine hells, would attack a mountain region? Really now? The mere thought of doing such puts me into disgust as the reasoning behind it seems insufficient. Rebels, offshots, hostiles, it does not matter, there is no point in attacking or invading people hiding in mountains. 3) I was disappointed that the princesses father and their general never came up beyond the early stages ever again. It makes them seem redundant.

    Great

I interrupted the Stormlight Archives bc ppl told me to read this first. I get it, it's a good starting point. But it's not worth it to interrupt SLA for. Excellent book tho.

    Genial - neu - spannend

Very long story building but good ending

The first half was rather boring. To much story building and few interesting characters. It got better and the last third is very good, as expected from Brandon Sanderson. Over all only a four star book to me.

    Sandersons at their colourful best.

Brandon Sanderson writes some of my favorite fantasy and he and his wife did not disappoint this time.

Warbreaker is well written and the audiobook well read. Sometimes the narrative has its lengths, some of the twists and the end are a little obvious.

The magic system is unique and ties wonderfully into the narrative. The perspective of the main characters, two sisters and a god is interesting mostly because, they are barely anytime in control of what happens, are mostly the characters who know the least of what is going on in the room. This makes this feel like a who-did-it crime novella at some time, when the reader/listener has to put together the clues for himself.

All in all great fun to listen to.
