The Earth has been overrun with monsters …

Post-Apocalypse America is unrecognizable from the past. Jake survives by working as the leader of a scavenging adventuring team. A former mage, now he follows the strange path of cultivation, taught to him by a mysterious traveler.

As far as he knows, he is one of the only people on Earth with this power.

Events will unfold that change Jake's life forever. Jake might even lose his very humanity while trying to do the right thing. But in return, perhaps he will grasp a second chance to save himself and others, to correct the past. He is about to be
caught up in something much greater than himself.

Will he be consumed by the machinations of greater powers? Only one thing is for certain. No matter how terrible the odds, Jake doesn't give up.

A good story that I will read the next part of. In my opinion it was a slight bit too lengthy and not as good as other works by the author though.

Enjoyable

I expected another one of these stereotypical wuxia stories at first, but hoped for something different and the story delivered a well received suprise.
Can't say much about world building since this book was mostly on earth but the story never bored me with unstoppable floods of exposition while still explaining more or less what was happening in the big picture.
The whole power system if left mostly vague wich is better in my opinion since it makes the fights feel more grounded in reality than in game logic.
Most characters feel believeable and act according to their established motivations.
The protagonist is coherent, thinks through problems in a believeable manner, doesn't do anything egregiously stupid just to further the plot and normally takes deceisive actions when needed.
Overall a very good story with many interesting and well written characters.

If I had to nitpick then I would've 3 points to make:
1. The time of the protagonist being an unintelligent zombie coul've been cut in half in my opinion
2. I found it a little hard to believe that the enemy vampire mage was able to grow even faster than the protagonist even though he stayed in one location with much weaker enemies for the most time
3. That the vampire god and the demon god were able to do so much on earth with nobody on their power lvl really interfering until the protagonist came into the picture was also a little hard to believe after I got the explanation about the eternal war
