You like sassy, sarcastic characters, a story with bloodthirsty elements and a beautiful writing style? Great! Then you will love this book.

The heart of this story are the characters. And what makes them unique and lovely are their sarcastic character traits and their fights. And I'm here for it.

I can't stress enough how cool their sassiness is and the way they counter. I love that Lira as the main character isn't the pure good - instead she is morally grey and we need more characters like that. Also I truly love Elian and his lovely arrogance. He's a love interest that actually has a personality.

The writing style is absolutely beautiful. It's written in simple present which I actually don't like. But in English it dosn't bother me that much. I'm not native English but I could understand everything very well.

I liked it a lot, that there are two narrators because the POV switches between Lira and Elian as well. They did a very great job. Their voices fit to the charaters so well.

I really liked the story and the female voice. It is nothing special but very enjoyable. The male reader was okay, but his intonation of the female characters was awful. They all sounded the same and more like an old granddad than a women.

The atmosphere just brings it all together, the narrators are some of the best I have ever listened to. Thanks so much for this experience, the writing feels so unwilted and really lures you deeply into the story.

Die Charakere sind alle samt flach und unnahbar. Man kann sich nicht in sie einfühlen. Man fiebert nicht mit ihnen mit. Sie haben einfach keine Tiefe.

Die Story is Basic, nichts außergewöhnliches nichts das man nicht hat kommen sehen.

Die Sprecher:innen waren auch nicht so berauschend. Er gefiel mir noch besser als Sie, aber dennoch. Immer wieder wurden sie sehr laut wenn sie bestimmte Charaktere gesprochen haben. Viel lauter als sie den Rest des Buches gesprochen haben. Das ist unangenehm, weil man ständig dir Lautstärke anpassen muss.

Ich würde es nicht weiterempfehlen.

I just don't know.

I wanted to love this so much. Cause if you need to know anything about me, it's the fact that I truly obsessed with The Little Mermaid. So to say I was excited to dive into a dark retelling of just this story, is a huge understatement. And I truly loved the story behind it, I loved the whole set up and everything the story was about. I truly did. I just had some problems with the execution.

I loved the beginning. Lira being a ruthless killer, collecting hearts of princes. GOTTA COLLECT THEM ALL, right??? I loved Elian being a siren hunter, chosing this life over just being a prince. I LOVE THIS WHOLE SET UP, especially when these two meet.

I just was so damn bored of nearly everything that happened in the middle. I loved Elian's ship crew, I loved all of these moments and their quest to find maaaagic key. I was super interested in all of this. But I was also just sooooo bored. It's the weirdest feeling I have ever had reading a book and I got really close to dnf'ing it.

Towards the end it got so much better once again. Things for a 100 times more interesting, I feel like everything was executed so much better. It was really worth sticking around.

Since I read it as an audiobook, it could be that the voices just didn't work for me. At normal speed these two put me to sleep, drawing every word out and making things so much less entertaining. I had to listen to it at double speed, cause I couldn't deal. Maybe this was why I then got through the boring parts much faster. I don't know.

That's the theme of this book review, I just don't know what to feel or what to think about this book

I would have prefered a duology or trilogy about the whole story. It has so much potential but everything in one book seems so rushed.

Voices are great, the book is an unexpected and thrilling version of the little mermaid - I love that you have no idea how the two main characters will end up.

I loved it. The readers are phenomenal in capturing the emotions of the characters. The world and action’s are described in beautiful narration and I was an the edge of my seat a lot of times. The ending was too fast in comprehension the rest. I wanted all the unspoken things to burst out but it felt like the characters just brushed over it once they won.
