"I'll make it clear from the start: I did not kill Hugh Henry Van Boren. I didn't even help. Well, not intentionally."
When Hugh Henry Van Boren, one of the most popular and richest kids in Jess Choudhary's school, is found dead, the student body is left reeling and wondering who the murderer could be.... Jess, a student under strict instructions to keep her record clean or risk losing her scholarship, finds herself at the center of the investigation when it's revealed that Hugh died in the exact same way as a character in a short story she wrote.
And then Jess receives an anonymous text thanking her for the inspiration.
With time running out, Jess knows if she doesn't solve this mystery she'll finally have something in common with Hugh Henry.
She'll be dead too.

Binged it in 2 days
I really enjoyed "a good girl's guide to murder" and Karen M McManus books, so of course I had to listen to this one too. Thankfully, I didn't got disappointed.
The characters first seemed like big cliches, but don't worry, there was more depth to them. I slowly learned to love each one of Jess friends.
At the Beginning Jess only had one friend, so it was nice to see her growing closer with each one she met on her way. But, most importantly: it never felt forced. In generell, all of the characters seemed realistic and like believable teenagers.
Sometimes, the side characters were a bit too mean (this is what I meant by cliche), so maybe that seemed unrealistic at first. But, then you got to know more about they're background, like, how they got raised and all that, so it seemed plossible why they would do/say such things.
Maybe this is a small spoiler, but Jess was pretty insecure at first. Her character arc focused on that and was perfectly settled out.
The plot never felt boring. There was always something new to uncover, which was great for me.
I read other stories that seemed way to long and stretched, only revieling everything at the end. Here, this wasn't the case. All of the (side) characters were interwined with each other, so no wonder I couldn't stop listening to this book.
I'll definitely check out any other future books from this author.
