DI Nikki Galena gets a series of anonymous calls. She is told the place, time, and who will die. But the messages are in a secret language used only by villains. Nikki and her team must decode the riddles and work out where the threats are coming from.

Meanwhile, the fens have been hit by a series of "designer burglaries". It appears that a new gang of thieves are stealing to order. And things get very close to home when a friend of Nikki's mother dies suddenly and, perhaps, suspiciously.

I love the characters in these stories and how they develop. The story itself is again well written and yes, not everything is quite probable ...but this is how detective stories work, or not?
The speaker improved or am I only getting used to her? The high pitched voices of Cat and especially Jill are still somewhat challenging...

I really enjoy Joy Ellis's detective stories, this series is also good, but not as good as the Jackman and Evans series, and oh why does the reader have to use such grating and jarring voices for some of the characters' "local accents"? The voice of the main character, Nikki Gelana being one of the most unpleasant (and there are several others). Henrietta Meire has a pleasant voice, she ought to distort it less, it would make for much more pleasant listening. Richard Armitage manages it light years better in the Jackman and Evans series. Keep trying Henrietta - the stories are exciting and enjoyable, so please don't overdo the "local colour"!
