Über diesen Titel

Winston Churchill's superlative account of the prelude to and events of the First World War is a defining work of 20th-century history. With dramatic narrative power, Churchill reconstructs the action on the Western and Eastern Fronts, the wars at sea and in the air, and the advent of tanks and U-boats.

Rich with personal insights, this second part of Churchill's magisterial book covers the year 1915 and includes the chapters 'The Deadlock in the West', 'The First Defeat of the U-boats', 'The Battle of Suvla Bay [in Gallipoli', and 'The Abandonment of the Dardanelles'.

Churchill was in the center of events, he had, when he wrote this, access to many sources also from the Central Powers, so he could produce this perfect narration and analysis.
In this second volume he describes how the Dardanelles expedition went wrong and how easy it would have been to achieve a different result.
It becomes very clear that the Battle of the Dardanelles was a battle of historic importance, probably like no other since.
Going back, even the Napoleonic battles never had such a singular importance, because they followed the direction of history, they did not determine that direction.

Behind the scenes of WW1 with Winston.
Book 2, 1915: from Winston standpoint, 1915 was only Gallipoli/Dardanelles Campaign. If you look for something else, you will be disappointed.
Winston is very busy in trying to proof that Dardanelles fiasco was only due to Earl Kitchener.
After listening to this book I am persuaded that Kitchener was far more responsible for the fiasco than Churchill, anyway I was interested on history. This book is more a huge defense document to be used in a Court.
