I love to be back in Osten Ard with the characters from my childhood. They have aged as we all. So, new characters are also added.
Andrew Wincott: he is a great speaker. He is doing a great job with all the different voices for all the characters.
But it is disturbing to hear Norne and Sita only hissing when their voice and language are described as singing in the first books of Osten Ard. I don't know whether no one did tell him, he could not do this with his voice or this is only in my head.
Anyway, after I got to accept this, it was great!

Zum Inhalt möchte ich nicht allzuviel sagen, da ich mich schnell in Spoiler verliere.
Insgesamt eine gelungene Weiterführung der Geschichte. Tad Williams lässt uns wie gewohnt an vielen Plätzen die Geschicke diverser Protagonisten verfolgen und mitfiebern. Es sind wieder Personen dabei, über die ich mich mächtig ärgern kann, wie damals auch schon über Simon und manch andere. Aber das macht es auch so unwiderstehlich. Ich möchte schließlich wissen, was ihnen so alles widerfährt ;).
Untypisch aber erfreulich ist, dass der Autor (schon) im ersten Band ein paar wichtige Zusammenhänge/Identitäten aufdeckt. Bin gespannt, wie es weiter geht.
Zum Sprecher:
Andrew Wincott ließt sehr gut und lebendig. Aber - er vergällte mir bereits den Hörgenuss der ersten drei Osten Ard Bände mit seiner Darbietung der Sithi. Ich hatte die Geschichte bereits ein paar mal gelesen, bevor sie endlich bei audible erhältlich war, und war regelrecht geschockt statt einer melodischen beeindruckenden Sprache ein geflüstertes Gekrächze eines alten Greises zu vernehmen. Natürlich hat jeder sein eigenes Kopfkino beim Lesen und kann enttäuscht sein, das eines anderen zu erleben. Aber es ist zur Genüge beschrieben, wie sich die Sithi anhören. Ich habe wirklich lange gehadert, ob ich mir das neue Buch nun anhöre oder nur lese.
Zur Tonqualität:
Leider ist diese nicht besonders gut. Schwer zu beschreiben, was ich da hören kann. Ein rauschendes Echo, wie ein Radiosender, der nicht ganz klar eingestellt wurde. Anfangs drehte ich mich öfter um, weil ich dachte, da ist jemand hinter mir mit irgendetwas Raschelndem zu Gange. Man gewöhnt sich daran, ist aber störend.

Overall, I enjoyed both series very much. I would venture to say that those who liked "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn" will also like "The last King of Osten Ard".
The speaker is very good, excellent reading voice. HOWEVER, there is one major point of criticism. The sithi and norns are read wiht rough, harsh kind of "loudly whispering" voices. Partially it even appears to be read while inhaling (voice for ghostly characters or characters encountered in dreams). This is basically the opposite from what I expected Sithi and Norns to sound and I could not get used to it till the end. Pretty annoying really. In addition, some dialects are used so that they not only sound very strange, but also a bit dim witted.
