Kritikerstimmen

The Ugly Truth is fresh, compelling and searing in its exploration of the toxicity of social media and the reality of modern celebrity. Not to be missed!
A whipsmart and ingenious thriller for our times. Compellingly narrated in snippets of mixed media, The Ugly Truth homes in on our toxic addiction to celebrity. It is a tour de force!
#FreeBritney meets The Appeal in this addictively unique thriller. Get ready to be utterly hooked. North is one of my all-time favourite writers.
Original, timely, thought-provoking and an absolutely brilliant read.
Totally fresh and very clever. A very enjoyable piece of fiction that made me reassess my own views and prejudices about people in the public eye.
The Ugly Truth is a beautifully crafted, and sharply observed novel. It makes for an incredibly powerful and heart-breaking read. I inhaled it.
A brilliantly constructed and compelling glimpse into the darkest reaches of celebrity, and a forensic study of how the solar flare of fame can blind everyone to the truth. Highly recommended.
One of the cleverest and most thought-provoking books I've read in a long time, with an absolute sucker-punch of an ending that really unsettled me.
Fresh, surprising and very astute on what it's like to live in the public eye.
Riveting, thought-provoking and heart-breaking in equal measure. So inventive and original, and the characterisation was incredible.

I loved the multi-media aspect of the story, with all the different viewpoints and interviews, and I loved how it depicted how messed up it really is how celebrities can be treated by the media. I never understood society's obsession with celebrities, and how we think we have a right to know every single thing about them, and critique even the smallest things about their lives or bodies, with no consideration of the fact that they are living, breathing humans, too. I also loved the ending, where the question of the whole book is again stayed after how the story turned out. It was a very good way to end the book. And even though I dont know the whole story about Wendy Williams, with #FreeBritanny alone having happened, I found the book to be very timely. The great thing is, I believe everyone can take something very different from this story, since due to the ending it seems like a very complex question. Then again, would it have ended that specific way if -insert here- had done -insert here- in the first place? Anyway, I dont always write this long of reviews, but I would most definitely recommend this book for a book club, because there's so much to discuss. Just a tip for anyone out there who has one. Im mad at myself for not knowing beforehand so I could've read it with my friend. All in all, respect to the author and how they wrote and crafted the story.

Very well done, and loved the ending
