Anfangs wirklich sehr spannend und sphärisch, zum Schluss hin doch sehr vorhersehbar. Wirklich toll gestartet bloß leider -- so finde ich -- können die Autoren das Niveau nicht halten. Werde mir die restlichen Titel der Trilogie nicht holen.

Guillermo Del Toro und Chuck Hogan schaffen es, dem Vampirgenre ein weiteres Mal neue Seiten abzugewinnen. Ihre Vampire, die finster, bösartig und vielschichtig sind, unterscheiden sich klar von dem, was man kennt und schaffen es, realistisch und greifbar genug zu sein, um Hörerinnen und Hörer zu gruseln. Die Verlauf der Geschichte ist nicht sehr überraschend, die Charaktere sind aber deutlich genug gezeichnet, um das Interesse zu wecken und zu erhalten. Der Spreche Ron Perlman ist gut zu verstehen und schafft es leicht, die düstere Atmosphäre der Erzählung zu transportieren. Ein gelungenes Hörbuch, wenn man das Genre mag und ein Faible für Spannung und leichten Horror hat.

Now this is a real scary story about vampires. Definitely something for those people which like to hear creepy stories (definetely no romance in here). The reader is doing an excellent job so that cold shivers will be sent up and down your spine. Nothing for the faint hearted. Can't wait for the next part of this trilogy.

Overall, "The Strain" suffers from bad phrasing, having been dragged out to create a trilogy, and from lack of originality, structure, pace, plot, and logic. Some scenes are gripping, more range between tedious and annoying. Everything is by far too predictable, vampire attacks soon become repetitive, characters are shallow, stereotypical, trivial. After finishing book one, I am not even curios enough to want to find out what happens in the second volume.
