Called the first spy story, ROTS is very perceptive about what was going on between England and Germany - more than 10 years before WW1… I enjoyed both reading and listening to this, though it takes a while to get going. Anyone who has sailed, in particular in the Frisian islands, is likely to enjoy the jargon, too. Films of the book have been made for the more impatient.

But Audible oh Audible, either find readers who actually speak German or get the terms in a book brushed up on before they start - for a German speaker it grates every time a place name or expression is mangled, argh.
